Two ingredient DIY face masks

November 8, 2017

With so many designer beauty products out there (see my spring fave’s here!), sometimes it’s good to take it back to basics. The old-fashioned way of beauty often involved using products from your kitchen with lots of fresh ingredients (obviously before we had the magic of Sephora!)! If you don’t have any professional masks laying around and looking for an organic skin pick-me-up I’ve put together some easy two-ingredient home-made face masks you can try at home:

Blackhead clearing mask
Ingredients
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 egg whites

Beat the egg whites mixture and add 1 teaspoon lemon juice. Apply ¾ of the mask mixture all over your face, using a brush, avoiding the eye and mouth area. Take a thin tissue and cut out holes for your mouth, eyes and nose (just like those fancy Korean masks!). Place it gently over your face, covering your entire face. Gently apply another layer of the mask over the tissue and leave it on to dry for 15-20 minutes.

Gently peel off the tissue in an upward direction and rinse with lukewarm water. This easy to make face mask helps to even out blemishes, clear blackheads and reduced the size of pores.

Oil clearing mask

Ingredients

  • 1/4 teaspoon organic turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon coconut milk

Mix all the ingredients well. Apply this paste all over your face and give a gentle massage in the circular direction. Let it sit for about 20 minutes and rinse with warm water. Use pure, organic turmeric or kasturi turmeric to avoid the yellow stain. Turmeric is amazing at clearing acne, fighting wrinkles, removing facial hair growth and adding a radiant glow to the skin!

Skin firming mask

Ingredients
  • 1 part organic ground coffee
  • 1 part organic honey

Mix the ingredients together and massage gently into the skin. Leave for about 10 minutes and wash off. Coffee is an excellent cleanser and exfoliator. The antioxidants found in coffee also help to firm and tighten the skin, making it a brilliant ingredient. Honey moisturises and heals the skin while caffeine improves blood circulation. What a duo! You can also use finely ground coffee as a scrub to brighten, tighten and soften the skin.

Glowing face mask

Ingredients
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons yoghurt

Mix ingredients together and apply to your face for 20 minutes. While yoghurt is delicious, it’s also rich in skin-loving vitamins. It is a wonderful beauty product that can be used for skin and hair. Natural, organic, full-fat yoghurts are full of zinc and lactic acid, helping to promote healthy skin and shiny hair. It helps to removing dead cells, hydrate and moisturise, tighten pores, promote glowing skin and reduces fine lines. As a hair mask, yoghurt can help to remove dandruff, heal an itchy scalp and nourishes the hair.
