I love new makeup. Discovering a new brand, shade of lipstick or trying an edgy new product always excites me. When I received a package from Mellow Cosmetics, a New Zealand based cosmetics company, filled with almost their entire range, I was over the moon! The package contained a variety of shades of brow powders, retractable pencils and pomades, liquid eyeliner, eye shadow palette and an impressive range of lip products.
Mellow Cosmetics is a New Zealand company and are cruelty free, paraben free and vegan. They put a lot of effort into their packaging with chic, edgy and stylish designs. The lipsticks are in a pretty beige bullets with gold trimming. The lip paints are in a clear tube with the colour of the lipstick the main focus while gold trimmings decorate the tube and applicator brush.
Liquid Lip Paints
The Liquid Lip Paints ($14.00 each for 3.2 g) come in twelve shades from a light nude to a purple and everything pink and red in between. The finish is matte and the small doe-foot applicator makes the lip paint easy to use — it deposits the product nicely onto the lips and allows for maximum control and precision. These liquid lip paints are incredibly weightless and have a slightly thin, mousse-like consistency that applies on nicely to give a pigmented colour that’s build-able and non-drying. I’m usually not a huge fan of matte lipsticks as they can be a bit heavy and drying. Mellow Cosmetics lip paints have proven to be different with a light formula stays on for hours, especially with good lip prep.
The first colour that caught my eye is Ibiza. The nude shade had a nice mix of warm and natural tones that’s perfect for every day wear. I tested this shade out for wear and I was pleased with the longevity. If you’re out and about I will guarantee it will stay on looking gorgeous and natural without needing to re-apply for many hours (unless you’re busy eating and drinking).
The second colour that grabbed my attention was Budapest which is a mauve based nude. A little bit deeper in colour than Ibiza, yet this colour was still super easy to apply and easy to wear. Again, I recommend good lip prep before wearing this to get your lips nice and hydrated so the product sits evenly for longer.
Third came the shade Barcelona. Besides my love for the city, this colour immediately stood out as I am a sucker for corals! Barcelona is a deep coral shade that’s perfect for date night or a fun night out. It’s striking yet very wearable. Application was very easy however I do recommend applying a lip liner first to ensure the application is even.
Next, I tested out the shade New York. This is a dark maroon or plum lip that will never go out of style. It has berry undertones and is a perfect statement colour that will be perfect for winter.
I love matte lip paints as they stay on all day, depending what you are doing of course. They can, however, be a little bit drying so I always have a bit of paw paw cream to carry with me throughout the day to prevent weird chips and marks on my lips.
Creamy Matte Lipstick
The Creamy Matte Lipsticks got swish new packaging with a MAC-esque shape with a beige tube and gold trimmings. Their Mellow logo is engraved in the bullet which adds chic detailing that I love! My favourite out the four that I received is definitely Posh and Blossom. While these lipsticks are matte, they are extremely creamy and smooth to apply. Their longevity is very impressive, lasting almost 5 hours of shopping, eating and drinking!
Posh is a natural nude with mauve undertones – perfect for every day wear. Blossom is a vivid coral with excellent colour payoff. The scent of this lipstick is divine! It’s coconutty and tropical which is very fitting for summer and something to wear in the evening on your island getaway!
Mellow Cosmetics are available on their website and they offer free shipping on orders over $40 to New Zealand, Australia, the USA and Canada. For all other orders, Mellow Cosmetics offers flat-rate shipping $4 in NZ, $5 to Australia and $8 for international.
Have you tried Mellow Cosmetics before? While the lip paints were my favourite out of their entire range, their eye makeup products – like their brow pencils – definitely impressed! Stay tuned for another review and let me know what you think in the comments below!
