Weekend getaway: Cocktatoo Island x MINKPINK lookbook

February 20, 2019

Mink Pink Dress

Cockatoo Island is a UNESCO world-heritage-listed island in the middle of beautiful Sydney Harbour. It has stunning views, a relaxing atmosphere and plenty of exciting things to do for a weekend away. Recently, my husband and I hopped on a ferry and explored this beautiful hidden gem. Read on to see what we got up, see what I wore and why you need to plan a visit.

Glamping at Cockatoo Island

While staying overnight at Cockatoo Island is not necessary to enjoy the sights, glamping on the harbour was surely memorable. Sleep amongst the harbour breeze, enjoy a stunning sunset and escape the city while still enjoying the famous Sydney views. On arrival, our tents are set up, beds made and toiletries provided. The perfect spot in Sydney with waterfront views of Sydney Harbour. Accommodation starts at just $89 per night for camping and you can even bring your own tent from $45 per night. Additionally, if you are after more comfort, you can rent apartments and heritage houses. There are plenty of choices!

Style file: Embracing the harbour breeze and relaxed vibes I wore this comfy MINKPINK open shoulder dress. I’m loving the love heart detail which brings a little bit of romance for our weekend away.

Food and Drinks

For your stay at Cockatoo Island, bring your own food, non-alcoholic drinks and utensils and use one of many outdoor BBQ areas. Alcohol is not allowed on the island however there are two licenced cafe’s with plenty of food and drinks on the menu.

Entertainment

Now here is where the fun starts! Cockatoo Island is full of incredible activities to keep you entertained. On arrival, enjoy audio tours to learn all about the history of Australia’s biggest shipyard of the 20th century.  On Saturday afternoon, set up a picnic on a picturesque hill and enjoy Sunset Sessions. Order a glass of wine, listen to live music and watch the harbour turn golden. If you are feeling brave, step out well after night fall and experience the Cockatoo Island Ghostyard Tour.  Cockatoo Island has a history of paranormal occurrences that stretches back more than a century. Grab your K-II EMF reader – a device used in paranormal detection – and follow the tour guide into the paranormal world of the island. Additionally, there is an onsite cinema which is free to use with sessions for kids and adults.

Style file: While exploring the industrial surrounds of Cockatoo Island I wore this gorgeous MINKPINK Day Break dress in emerald green. I love how this colour compliments the natural surrounds while also perfect for edgy city style.

Franky and I loved our stay at Cockatoo Island! The accommodation is comfortable, the food delicious (their cafe’s are amazing I had one of the best breakfast burritos ever!) and the atmosphere is inviting. My favourite part of the entire trip is the amazing, relaxing vibe of the island. While the city is close, it seems like a world away. All you want to do is kick back and enjoy one of a kind scenery and spend time with your loved one.

Finally, thank you MINKPINK for gifting me the most gorgeous dresses for a romantic weekend away. I love their effortless style and easy wear. These dresses are absolute must-haves for short getways so all you need to do is wake up and feel gorgeous!
