4 best places to eat in Canberra

“What are the best places to eat in Canberra?”. Lately, I can’t seem to keep up with the influx of trendy bars and restaurants popping up around our capital. Despite the rise plenty of new venues, the long-standing Canberra favourites keep up by releasing new menus and fun ways to dine! Due to all the excitement across the Nation’s capital, I decided to spend a few weeks visiting trendy Canberra bars and restaurants in hope of finding the best. Read on to hear my thoughts on Terra, Molto Italian Bottomless Brunch, First Edition and Burger Hero.

Terra Canberra

Offering visitors everything from full meals to delicious coffee to on-the-go food options, Terra is a “canteen-style, produce-driven food destination”. In addition to the unique breakfast and lunch options is the new dinner menu featuring smoked and charcoal meats, roasted vegetables, home-made pickled vegetables, jams and chilli sauce. Their food has that traditional ‘home-made’ feel and is incredibly flavoursome. In fact, Terra have a passion for drinks and food parings, serving up incredible local wines, beers and spirits.

My favourite dinner dish is the 6 Hour Smoked Beef Short Rib. It melts in your mouth and you can help but savour every bite. Alternatively, for the sweet tooth, a must try dessert is the Deep Fried Cheesecake with Jack Daniels Ice Cream and Smoked Maple Syrup. All this is not to be outdone by their impressive drinks range with wines from Mudgee all the way to the south of France. Terra is open Monday-Saturday, located in No Name Lane, City West. Finally, make sure to check out their opening times for breakfast lunch and dinner online.

Molto Italian

Soak up the sunshine this spring and summer with a spread of Italian desserts, fresh fruits, rustic pizza and bottomless champagne or prosecco. Molto Italian, a beautifully located Italian restaurant, has launched their new Bottomless Brunch on the foreshore. As an entrée you will receive a tier of Italian fruit and cakes along with a glass of Prosecco or Champagne. Not to mention, the star of the show, the delicious pizza, served in combinations of fresh torn burrata with either Italian sausage and crispy bacon, eggs Florentine or smoked salmon.

Additionally, if Prosecco is too much on a Sunday morning, fresh pressed juices are available. Molto’s Bottomless Brunch is on every Sunday in spring and summer on the Kingston Foreshore. And finally, the brunch is super affordable at just $35 per person with prosecco or $50 with champagne. Bottoms up!

First Edition Canberra

To see all that Canberra has to offer, taste the city like a local at First Edition Bar and Dining. This space has an ‘old-world library’ inspired décor with bespoke woodwork that brings an inviting charm. However, their modern Australian menu is nothing short of edgy and contemporary. The menu showcases some of the best local produce sourced within Canberra and surrounds.

So, I went to taste their new spring 2018 options and was delighted to be welcomed with The First Impression – a First Edition signature gin cocktail with passionfruit and basil. Not a fan of cocktails? Try their vast range of local and interstate wines, beers and spirits. For a dinner that’s sure to satisfy, the Eight Hour Lamb Shoulder will enlighten your palette as you savour every mouth-watering bite. Love is in the air for desert – as you fall in love with their baked rose water cheese cake decorated with crystalised petals. With this in mind, it is the perfect spot for a romantic date or a summer drinking hole. First Edition is located within Novotel in Canberra city. It’s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week.

Burger Hero

So, are you looking to indulge in over-the-top, delicious freak-burgers? The Burger Hero burgers are fresh and made-to-order with abundance of local produce and endless possibilities. In fact, with a new burger of the week every week, you will never be bored.

Additionally, you can design your own burger and take it to the next level by making the freak burger you’ve always dreamt of! I started out with the Karaage Ramen. This Ramen crusted chicken, rainbow slaw, tonkatsu sauce, kewpie mayo, jalapenos, cream cheese burger is the perfect Asian fusion. To make it even freakier why not add some extras like jalapeño poppers and mozzarella sticks. Serve this with a side of their delicious waffle fries and a side of beer or cider. Burger Hero is located in Braddon and open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. You’re welcome!
