Best Beauty Trends From The Decade

best beauty products of the decade

2019, what a whirlwind. I can barely come to terms that the year is gone, let alone that we are now in a new decade. This got me thinking about the evolution of beauty and skincare. We’ve had some major changes from the rise of contouring to beauty inclusivity. Here are all my top picks of the best beauty trends from the decade.

Brows

One of the best beauty trends from the decade has been the rise of more permanent makeup solutions. Microblading and professional lip and eye shaping has helped many men and women achieve a desired look that lasts. I was no stranger to this trend, trying out microblading in 2018 and lip-tattoo in 2019! Advance in technology allowed these treatments to look more natural while lasting you many years. I expect this trend to hang around and advance even further in the future. My pick: Microblading at Natural Body Image in Canberra. Contouring

In the time before Kardashians, ‘baking’ and glam squads we had a little thing called bronzer. Dab your brush in a shimmering golden powder, swipe it on your cheeks, throw on a little blush and you’re out the door. Since then, the art of contouring has taken over and brought our polished bronze look to a new level.  Now, beauty fans around the world are sculpting their cheeks, sharpening their jawline and thinning out their noses. Love it or hate it, contouring has revolutionised the beauty industry and I expect that it’s here to stay. My pick: Zuii Organic Contour Bronzer.

Inclusivity

Rihanna’s beauty brand Fenty changed the industry forever when it launched in 2017. The brand’s standout was the impressive foundation line offering 40 shades! This is a huge increase from the regular 6-8 shade range we’ve been accustomed to.  Suddenly, inclusivity was at the forefront of many makeup brands who soon followed. In 2020, the Fenty effect is still happening with more and more brands expanding their shades each year. My picks: Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Long Wear Foundation (40 shades!), Maybelline Fit Me Foundation (40 shades!), and MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation (35 shades!).

Ombre

Okay, name one thing that can’t be ombre in 2020? This trend has taken over our entire beauty regime! Hair, nails, brows, even our eyeshadow is faded in various colours and it’s here to stay. At least for a few more years! While I don’t rock obviously “ombre” hair my amazing hairdresser is super talented at blending shades and giving me subtle highlights that seamlessly mix with my natural roots. This makes blonde maintenance really easy as I can go about four months between colouring! My pick: @colourbyzoe at Lexi Bannister Hair Salon or the blonde queen herself @lexibannister.

Lip Kits

By now, I’m sure you can see the pattern here: much of our decade trends have evolved from the Kardashians. Lip kits are also no stranger to the Kardashian clan. Kylie Jenner, the Kardashian billionaire started creating her Lip Kits through Kylie Cosmetics and other brands soon followed. These kits include everything you need to create the ultimate #lipgoals – lipstick, lip liner, and often lip gloss. All carefully assembled in matching colours, these kits give you your dream lips in seconds. My pick: Thin Lizzy Ultimate Pout Volumising LipKit (4 piece set for just $59.99).

Instagram

Instagram‘s had huge effect on our skincare, makeup and the decade in general. It’s helped create the mammoth rise of the online beauty together with other social media platforms. The 2000s brought us makeup and beauty bloggers, video tutorials and beauty reviews. It’s driven our passion for makeup and the curiosity about rising trends. We’ve seen beauty scandals, beauty uprisings and millions of new beauty trends. I couldn’t keep this one off my list. My pick: @chloemorello A past Canberra local, this girl delivers killer looks with a down-to-earth attitude. Hands down my favourite beauty blogger of the decade.
