http://www.adorebeauty.comEye cream is a hot topic. Many experts believe it is a must-have in a beauty routine, others think it’s a marketing ploy to sell more products. Whether you use it or not, I want to share my experience and thoughts on the highly controversial beauty product.
My best friend came over the other night for a standard girls night: wine, ice cream and face masks. In awe of all the creams I use on my face, she picks up an eye cream and asks what it does. Honestly, I was a bit shocked that she’s never come across it before. Why? Because your eye area is the thinnest, most sensitive part of your face that ages and wrinkles far quicker.
Here’s a few reasons you should use eye cream.
Gentler than your regular moisturiser
The skin around your eyelids is significantly thinner than the rest of your face and is much more sensitive to products. Moisturisers can be used around the eye area, but they may cause stinging or burning. The benefit of a cream specifically formulated for the eye area is that it will be less irritating than a moisturiser. A properly formulated eye cream will be milder, free of fragrances and have added benefits of additional vitamins
Extra ingredients to help fight ageing
There’s many eye creams on the market but you should look out for some key ingredients that will help you reach your radiance goals.
- Hyaluronic acid hydrates your skin
- Ceramides retain moisture
- Retinol promotes new cell growth and cell regeneration
- Neuropeptides increase the production of collagen and elastin production
- Vitamin C helps with collagen production
- Vitamin E nourishes and soothes skin
- Vitamin K inhibits bruising and diminishes dark pigment or cast due to broken down blood cells.
- Kojic acid, arnica, and hydroquinine, as well as licorice can diminish dark circles and lighten pigment under the eyes
- Chamomile, tea extracts, and cucumber can help with puffiness
Use a small amount and don’t expect results overnight
Too much of a good thing can be a bad (and expensive) thing. Use a pea sized amount to cover both of the lower lids and area around your eye. A good eye cream can show small signs of improvement over night however for optimum results, 4-6 weeks of usage is required.
