With a brand new year comes new era in fashion. In 2017 we saw the rise and fall of chokers and fishnets. Other trends like 90’s denim and peep shoulder tops continue to grace the streets and runways across the world. With that, what would 2018 bring us? Will 90’s fashion continue to flourish or will we see a return of the 80s? I’ll be keeping a close eye on the turn of events but in the meantime see my predictions for hot trends in 2018!
Statement earrings
Earrings are a key accessory to complete any outfit. Next year, stock up on large and bold statement pieces to complete your look. Tassels, geometric shapes and precious stones will dominate the runway in the earring department while the rest of the outfit may hold a ‘less is more’ approach. When it comes to earrings, 2018 will be the year of ‘the bigger the better’.
Wide leg pants
Dressy wide-leg trousers are a power piece that every woman should own in their office wardrobe. And when you pair them with sneakers and a T-shirt, they can make a casual fashion-forward statement on the weekends. Grab a bold wide leg jumpsuit and you’re ready to hit the town. Celebrities are always one step ahead of the game when it comes to fashion and that’s why we’ve seen the likes of Bella Hadid and Chrissy Teigen rock this style from cotton to denim. Perfect piece for summer that won’t make you sweat, or a great partner for your turtle neck sweater in winter.
Logo tees
In 2018, t-shirts will be doing the talking. From Pablo to Kim Kardashian, rocker tee’s to t-shirt dresses, the style already made a big impact in 2017. Just think back to the standout statement pieces like the Dior slides, Gucci t-shirts and Puma pieces. Get a shirt that speaks volumes and is totally ‘gram-able. This trend is here to stay.
Ultra violet
Not only was it named Pantone colour of the year but Ultra Violet has already been forecasted to be the colour of 2018. Back in September, during Milan Fashion Week, Gucci’s Spring 2018 collection was not only presented under ultra violet light but a number of the looks featured this eye-catching shade. Purple jumpsuits, shimmering gowns, velvet pants and blazers were capturing the fashionista’s world-wide.
“Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own,” Pantone stated.
Embellished foodwear
Bold embellishments in 2018 will be the it trend for footwear. Subtle yet striking shoe details like studs, pearls and bold buckles have been a hit in 2017 and will be even more popular in 2018.
