Ocean inspired interior design for bedroom

The bedroom is all about creating a relaxing and restful retreat no matter the style. And if you want to extend your summer and create a beachy, tropical or nautical environment there are some very simple design elements to incorporate into your bedroom that will give you exactly what you are looking for. Follow these simple tips and get the tranquil and serene room you always dreamt of.

A touch of turquoise

A neutral palette instilled with accents of ocean-inspired hues is the core of this timeless decorating style. Keep the pop of colour to a minimal and spread across various objects throughout the room. To add a little more of a retreat feel, include warming hints of timber like a side table or rustic lamp. Featured quilt cover is the Versai White Quilt Cover Set By Private Collection which I got online at Australian online store Just Bedding.

Accessorise your bedroom

Use throws and cushions to add texture and colour. I love my comfy Kas Anton Throw perfect for cosy days in bed spent reading a book. Don’t be afraid of mixing up fabrics and include some fresh flowers to complement the room. White flowers are always a safe choice but I encourage you to experiment! The calming colour palette of white and blue and plenty of cosy accessories make this relaxation zone comfy yet sophisticated.

Layer your accessories

Create coastal accents on your bed by starting out neutral and layering with colour. Use Euro-sized pillows to anchor between the headboard or bedroom wall. I’m loving the Kalia Soft Blue Pillow Cases by Bianca.  Next, layer two standard size pillows on top to bring back in a neutral base. Experiment with fabrics and add extra layers for a more luxurious look. Complete the layers with a small pillow that makes your ocean inspired statement. (Featured is the Raffles Teal Square Cushion by Ultima).  The trick here is to keep the number of throw pillows to odd numbers for an effortless yet stylised look.

Find your furniture

Keep your furnishings simple and you can have more fun with accessories. Use natural timbers or white polished furniture. Decorate with unexpected objects like Himalayan salt lamps, sea shells and fresh flowers.

Coastal artwork

Appreciate the sea all year long with ocean-inspired artwork. Abstract waves, coral, sea glass and sea shells are perfect ways to bring the element of nature into your home.
